Using Global-Scale Earth System Models for Regional Fisheries Applications

نویسندگان

چکیده

Climate change may impact ocean ecosystems through a number of mechanisms, including shifts in primary productivity or plankton community structure, acidification, and deoxygenation. These processes can be simulated with global Earth system models (ESMs), which are increasingly being used the context fisheries management other living marine resource (LMR) applications. However, projections LMR-relevant metrics such as net production vary widely between ESMs, even under identical climate scenarios. Therefore, use ESM should accompanied by an understanding structural differences biogeochemical sub-models within ESMs that give rise to these differences. This review article provides brief overview some most prominent among recent generation how they relevant LMR application.

Perspectives for regional earth system modeling

The recent development of regional climate models which can potentially produce long-term (multi-year to multi-decadal) simulations at high spatial resolution (5-50 km), opens a range of possibilities for interactive coupling with ecosystem, hydrology, ocean-sea-ice and chemistry models on the regional scale. Such coupling offers two primary advantages: (1) It is accomplished at scales more con...

Bayesian methods for regional-scale eutrophication models.

We demonstrate a Bayesian classification and regression tree (CART) approach to link multiple environmental stressors to biological responses and quantify uncertainty in model predictions. Such an approach can: (1) report prediction uncertainty, (2) be consistent with the amount of data available and (3) be flexible enough to permit updates and improvements. Tree-based methods are a flexible ap...

Quality Assessment of Global Modis Lai Product for the Regional Scale Applications

MODIS LAI product has been increasingly important for analyzing the process and productivity of terrestrial ecosystems at global scale. This study was aimed to assess the quality of global MODIS LAI product for applications in regional and even in local scales. To examine the quality of MODIS LAI data, we produced a reference LAI map that was derived by relating the ground-measured LAI to Lands...

Regional Earth System prediction: a decision-making tool for sustainability?

While the IPCC will continue to lead Earth System projections for global issues such as greenhouse gas levels and global temperature increase, high-resolution regional Earth System predictions will be crucial for producing effective decisionmaking tools for day-to-day, sustainable Earth System management and adaptive management of resources. Regional Earth System predictions and projections at ...
